100-movie mashup proves ‘Uptown Funk’ works for any dance scene

In addition to dominating the charts, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ 1960s-inspired earworm “Uptown Funk” has inspired countless tributes, remixes, and memes.

Rick “Rickroll” Astley cover? Check. Harry Potter parody version? Yep. Viral wedding video? Sure.

Now the intrepid editors at What’s the Mashup have demonstrated that just about any cinematic dance scene can be set to the relentlessly catchy pop song. In a new five-minute montage, they’ve compiled clips of people dancing from 100 different movies and spliced them together with the magic of “Uptown Funk.”

The usual suspects are all there — John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, Jennifer Beals in Flashdance, Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing — but the best parts are the unexpected ones, like Jean-Claude Van Damme and Nicolas Cage in cameos better left unspoiled.
