Last week, director Josh Trank distanced himself from Fantastic Four as it headed into what would become one of the worst-ever debut weekends for a big-budget superhero movie. “A year ago, I had a fantastic version of this. And it would’ve received great reviews,” Trank wrote of the film, which earned a 9 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. “You’ll probably never see it. That’s reality, though.”
In the days that have followed, more details have surfaced about the rocky production on Fantastic Four. But despite the juicy behind-the-scenes stories, Trank is far from the first filmmaker to find fault with what happened to his film. Ahead, five other directors who criticized their work.
