Based on the first trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, it’s safe to say that the rebellion has caught fire. In other words, if you thought the games were dark, prepare yourselves.
Quick refresher: When The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 left off, the team had successfully retrieved Peeta from the Capitol… but his reunion with Katniss in District 13 wasn’t quite what she expected. When an incredibly psychologically damaged Peeta first saw Katniss, his instinct was to try to kill her. In other words, it was not even slightly romantic.
Spoiler: Peeta has been brainwashed by the Capitol. So what now?
Well, Katniss is angrier than ever at President Snow, and President Coin is itching to make her move. And that brings us to the first trailer for the series’ final film. Let’s take a deep dive, shall we?
It’s wedding season! It might not be colorful, but it’s full of love.
The gang’s all here! (Clearly, President Coin is a romantic. I mean, look at that face.)
Gotta have that #weddingvideo. #OdairCresta
Finnick gets the (slightly crazy) girl.
All is fair in love and war… and Effie’s hair salon.
District 13 dances, but don’t let it fool you: It’s the wedded bliss before the storm. (Just like in real-life marriages.)
Enough with the love, Katniss is pissed with a Capitol P. Get it? As she puts it, “Nothing good is safe while Snow’s alive. I can’t make another speech about it.”
Katniss to Coin: “Snow has to pay for what he’s done.”
Get ready, Capitol. We’re sending 10 whole people after you.
Whatever, so long as Boggs is one of the 10, we’ll take our chances.
“So over this.”
Another day, another empowering speech.
From a distance, about 1/16 of the city appears to be on fire. It’s a start?
It’s still not clear what they’ll do with Plutarch Heavensbee due to Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death, but the important thing is that he’s in the film, and he seems to have Katniss’s back.
The man of the hour. (There’s a 60 percent chance he’s poisoning everyone at the table.)
And you thought your curfew-loving parents were strict.
Why anger love-triangle fans when Katniss can share a dance with the person she risks her life for time and time again—her sister.
Gwendoline Christie makes her first appearance as Commander Lyme from District 2. So far, all we can tell is that she is not a happy camper.
*explosion noises*
Remember when Katniss said she wouldn’t give another speech? Well, she meant AFTER this one: “We all have one enemy. He corrupts everyone and everything. He turns the best of us against each other.”
And so they rise against the Capitol…
…and it’s beautiful.
“Turn your weapons to the Capitol.” (Literally.)
Not only has Peeta found his way back to a healthy weight, but look at that face. Does that look like the face of a strangler?!
Hugging > strangling. (Also, 1,000x more romantic.)
*explosion noises*
Katniss is the Arrow! J/K, she’s probably just trying to stay hidden while on the streets of the Capitol.
As readers of the book know, Gale continues to work his way into the action. Here, odds are he’s working on his master plan to help take down the Capitol.
*louder explosion noises*
President Snow, fittingly in red, warns that the Capitol is basically another Hunger Games arena. Translation: the streets are lava and everyone has to find a way not to fall in.
Okay, they’re not literally lava, but there are booby traps everywhere.
And some of those traps trigger a wave of a tar-like substance…
The really bad news? This isn’t even the worst booby trap. (Sorry.)
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 76th Hunger Games.”
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 will hit theaters Nov. 20.
