Anne Hathaway is starring in and producing comedy sci-fi movie The Shower

Anne Hathaway’s already done a straight-up science-fiction movie with last year’s Interstellar. She’s running it back — but with a jokey twist.

The Oscar-winning actress has signed on to star in and producer The Shower. Her husband, Adam Shulman, is also one of the producers on the project.

“Jac [Schaeffer] has written an awesome sci-fi comedy centered around funny, fully dimensional female characters,” Hathaway said in a statement. “I feel so lucky to be a part of the team that will bring her enormously talented and fresh voice to the big screen.”

Schaeffer’s (TiMER) script was on the Blacklist last year, meaning it was tabbed as one of the best, yet-to-be-produced screenplays. It focuses on a baby shower interrupted by earth invaders, and the women are tasked to fend the aliens off.

“Anne is the perfect actor to anchor a story that is ultimately about female friendship, with a lot of ass-kicking along the way,” said Schaeffer.

Andrew Lauren Productions, which produced Spectacular Now and The Squid and the Whale, produces The Shower. No director, studio, or other actors are currently attached.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.
