After Jennifer Lawrence penned a letter criticizing the gender pay gap in Hollywood, several actors including Emma Watson, Elizabeth Banks, and her American Hustle co-star Bradley Cooper — whom she name-checked in her list of male co-stars who were paid more than her — have spoken out to back her up.
Cooper, the star of the upcoming Burnt, was asked about Lawrence’s letter Tuesday and if a double standard in Hollywood existed. “There’s a double standard in the whole world, yeah, for sure. This is just one aspect,” Cooper told ET. “So anytime there’s a place where a voice can come out and be outspoken, that’s great.”
“I love strong women,” Cooper continued. “I think it is making a difference.”
The Sony hack last year revealed the Lawrence made less money than her male American Hustle costars. “Jeremy Renner, Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper all fought and succeeded in negotiating powerful deals for themselves,” Lawrence wrote on Tuesday. “If anything, I’m sure they were commended for being fierce and tactical, while I was busy worrying about coming across as a brat and not getting my fair share.”

Cooper’s costar in Burnt, Sienna Miller, fully supported Lawrence and had a stronger call to action. She recalled the time she declined a Broadway role after discovering her pay would be half to her male complement. “Ultimately, I think it’s about valuing yourself enough to know that if you walk into that situation, I wouldn’t have felt dignified,” she told ET. “I would have felt, in some ways, unhappy. I think we all have to just really start standing up for ourselves.”
