Casting Net: Glenn Close closes in on Bastards

  • Glenn Close is in final negotiations to join Ed Helms, Owen Wilson, J.K. Simmons, and Terry Bradshaw in the patrilineal comedy Bastards. The directorial debut of cinematographer Larry Sher will tell the story of two brothers (Helms and Wilson) who try to track down their biological father after discovering their mom (Close) lied about the old man’s fate. Shooting begins this month on the film, which will be released by Warner Bros. [Deadline]
  • Aldis Hodge, who portrayed MC Ren in Straight Outta Compton, is in talks to join Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher 2. Ed Zwick (The Last Samurai) is directing the second cinematic adaptation of Lee Child’s book series about a former military police officer (Cruise) who roams the country righting wrongs. Paramount will release the movie Oct. 21, 2016. [Variety]
  • Paul Sorvino, James Caan, and Jessica Walter are on board for From Here to Infirmity, an indie thriller about a teenager who enlists his grandpa’s help to rescue the girl he loves. Caan is to play the grandfather, with Sorvino portraying his old war buddy. Erik Canuel is directing, from a script by Jeffrey Alan Schechter. [The Wrap]
  • English actor Simon McBurney (The Theory of Everything) has landed a role in The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist, which also stars Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, and Frances O’Connor. James Wan is returning to helm the horror sequel, which will take Wilson and Farmiga’s paranormal investigators to England. The film is scheduled for release next summer from Warner Bros. [Variety]
