Casting Net: Kristen Bell mounts up for CHiPs movie

  • Kristen Bell is set to team up with husband Dax Shepard in the writer-director-actor’s big-screen adaptation of the late-’70s, early-’80s TV series CHiPs. Shepard and Michael Pena are following in the footsteps of Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada, playing a pair of aviator-shaded, motorcycle-riding California Highway Patrol officers keeping the Southland safe. The cast of the Warner Bros. film also includes Adam Brody, Rosa Salazar, and Vincent D’Onofrio (who will play the villain). Last year, Shepard told EW his take on CHiPs would have a more serious tone than the lightweight action series, though he promised to “keep the pants tight.” [The Wrap]
  • Resident Evil: The Final Chapter has added Iain Glen, Shawn Roberts, Ruby Rose, Eoin Macken, and William Levy to its cast. Writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson will conclude the action-horror franchise with Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter returning as headliners. Shooting starts this month in South Africa. Screen Gems has scheduled the movie for Jan. 27, 2017. [Deadline]

  • Henry Thomas, who played Elliott in E.T. as a kid, and child actress Lulu Wilson (Deliver Us From Evil, CBS’ The Millers) have boarded Ouija 2 (no pun intended). The pair join Annalise Basso and Elizabeth Reaser in the horror sequel inspired by the eponymous spirit board. Mike Flanagan is directing from a script he wrote with Oculus collaborator Jeff Howard. Universal will release the movie Oct. 21, 2016. [The Hollywood Reporter]
