Chris Pine’s warp drive may have landed him in an entirely new cinematic universe.
TheWrap reports that the Star Trek star has clinched a spot opposite Gal Gadot in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Wonder Woman film. Pine will putatively play Steve Trevor, square-jawed love interest to Gadot’s Amazonian warrior, in the upcoming Patty Jenkins project, which will help span the narrative space between Wonder Woman’s first appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the eventual Justice League double-hander.
Warner Bros. would not confirm the report, and Pine’s reps didn’t immediately responded for comment.
In a way, Pine would be boldly going where no man has gone before, playing the romantic lead and dude-in-peril for a female superhero. While few specifics are known about the film itself, series overlord Zack Snyder has indicated the standalone movie, as well as Gadot’s appearance in Batman v Superman, will be a key link in the DC chain. “She plays a super-important part,” Snyder told EW last month. “In a lot of ways, she’s the gateway drug to the rest of the Justice League.”
But before Pine goes franchise-hopping, he has to finish up production on Star Trek Beyond, his third film playing Capt. James Kirk. Wonder Woman is slated to hit theaters on June 23, 2017.
