Jack Black wants to tell you a story in the new Goosebumps trailer

Who said stories need beginnings, middles, and ends? R.L. Stine has a better idea.

Jack Black takes on the role of the Goosebumps scribe in the newest trailer for the upcoming family action film of the same name. While there are similar scenes in this spot and the first trailer for the film, a new scene features Workaholics star Jillian Bell slamming her compact automobile into a werewolf. There’s also a Ferris wheel on the loose careening through a forest. Things look great for this town.

Naturally, this isn’t truly how Stine, now 71, was or is. When chatting with EW last year, Black explained how he took liberties with Stine’s character. “This is obviously a fictionalized version of his life and nothing that happens in this movie actually happened to him, other than him writing all the books,” Black said. “I also got to meet R.L. and he’s a really great guy. Really smart and funny and sweet. But I made [the character] more of a sort of curmudgeonly dark, brooding beast master.”

Goosebumps is due in theaters Oct. 16. Watch the trailer below.
