Jack will be back in time for next Halloween.
Paramount has announced the sequel to the 2012 Tom Cruise vehicle Jack Reacher will hit screens Oct. 21, 2016.
Stepping out of the sequel is Mission Impossible — Rogue Nation director and writer Christopher McQuarrie and in comes The Last Samurai director Edward Zwick. He and Marshall Herskovitz, a Last Samurai collaborator, are rewriting the script.
The first cinematic adaptation of Lee Child’s book series grossed $138.8 million worldwide, including a cool $80.1 million in the U.S. The titular protagonist is a former military police officer who roams the country.
Rogue Nation reaffirmed Cruise’s box-office draw; as of this posting, the fifth Mission Impossible film has earned more than $480 million worldwide.
