Keanu Reeves’ John Wick 2 locked and loaded for fall shoot

Keanu Reeves is about to start shooting John Wick 2 — and a ton of fake bad guys.

The sequel to the 2014 sleeper hit starring Reeves as a melancholy ex-assassin who gets back in the headshot game to avenge his late puppy is set to begin production this fall, Thunder Road Pictures revealed this week. (The news piggybacked on the announcement that Scott Waugh will direct the action film Outlaws Inc.)

Shot on a $20 million budget, the original John Wick earned a respectable $78 million at the worldwide box office while impressing moviegoers and critics with stylish visuals, over-the-top action choreography, and a he’s-still-got-it performance from Reeves.

John Wick co-directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelsk, who hail from the stunt world, are reprising their duties on the sequel, as is screenwriter Derek Kolstad. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but rest assured the filmmakers will find a way to put their hyper-lethal protagonist back to work.

When the sequel was announced earlier this year, Jason Constantine, president of acquisitions and co-productions at Lionsgate, said in a statement, “We knew that there was still so much more of this story to tell.”

A release date for John Wick 2 has not been announced.
