The documentary Keith Richards: Under the Influence will premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, it was announced on Thursday.
Directed by Morgan Neville, whose film 20 Feet From Stardom won the Best Documentary Award at last year’s Oscars, the movie draws on hours of interviews with the legendary Rolling Stones guitarist (and, shall we say, bon viveur). Under the Influence also details the creation of Richards’ new album, Crosseyed Heart, his first solo collection in 23 years, which is released Sept. 18, the same day the documentary debuts on Netflix.
“If there’s a Mount Rushmore of rock ’n’ roll, Keith’s face is surely on it,” Neville said in a statement last month. “He has always represented the soul of rock music — for all of the light and dark shades that implies. To my relief, Keith Richards turned out to be a real man — full of humor, knowledge and wisdom.”
