The Magnificent Seven is an upcoming American western action film directed by Antoine Fuqua, and written by Nic Pizzolatto and Richard Wenk. A remake of the 1960 western film of the same name, which in turn was a remake of the 1954 Japanese film Seven Samurai, the film stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Lee Byung-hun, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Martin Sensmeier, Peter Sarsgaard, and Haley Bennett.
The film was reported to be in the planning stages in 2012, with Tom Cruise starring. It was reported that Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman, and Matt Damon might join the film.On December 4, 2014, Chris Pratt was in early talks to join Washington in the film. On February 20, 2015, Haley Bennett was set to star as the widow of a man who was murdered, and she hires seven bounty hunters to get revenge.Peter Sarsgaard joined on May 20, 2015, to play the villain role in the film.On the same day, Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr confirmed that Jason Momoa had left the film because he was already booked to play Aquaman.On July 11, 2015, Daily Mirror reported that Vinnie Jones had been set to star in the film.
Principal photography began on May 18, 2015, in the north of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The film is set to be released in conventional and IMAX theatres on September 23, 2016.
Premise
Director Antoine Fuqua brings his modern vision to the classic story of The Magnificent Seven. As the town Rose Krick is put under the siege of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue, the town’s residents enlist the help of seven outlaws, headed by bounty hunter Sam Chisolm, to protect them while they prepare for the violent confrontation that is anticipated. However, upon meeting the town’s residents, the Seven find themselves fighting for much more than money.
