
Sully is an upcoming American-Australian-British biographical drama film directed and co-produced by Clint Eastwood and written by Todd Komarnicki, based on the autobiography Highest Duty by Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger with Jeffrey Zaslow. The film stars Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart, Laura Linney, Holt McCallany, Jamey Sheridan, and Jerry Ferrara. The film will be released by Warner Bros. on September 9, 2016.
On June 2, 2015, it was announced that Clint Eastwood would direct a biopic of a real-life hero captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger for Warner Bros., scripted by Todd Komarnicki. The film is based on the autobiography Highest Duty written by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow, about the safe landing of US Airways Flight 1549 known as “Miracle on the Hudson.”The book’s rights were acquired by Allyn Stewart and Frank Marshall in 2010. Eastwood and Tim Moore would produce through Malpaso Productions with Stewart and Marshall through Flashlight Films. On June 18, 2015, Deadline reported that Tom Hanks was in talks to play the lead role of Captain Sully.On August 11, 2015, Aaron Eckhart signed on to portray Jeff Skiles, the first officer and co-pilot on the Airbus A320, who helped Sully safely land the plane. On August 17, 2015, Laura Linney was added to the cast to play Sully’s wife, Lorraine Sullenberger. On August 19, 2015, Holt McCallany joined the film to play Mike Cleary, the President of the US Airline Pilots Association. On August 27, 2015, Jamey Sheridan was cast in the film to play the senior air safety investigator who works tirelessly investigating the cause of the crash. On September 11, 2015, Jerry Ferrara joined the cast. On October 6, 2015, Max Adler was cast in to play Jimmy Stefanik, a passenger on the flight. On October 15, 2015, Sam Huntington signed on to play the role of Jeff Kolodjay, a passenger on the plane with his father.[9] Autumn Reeser was also among the cast. On October 19, 2015, Wayne Bastrup joined the film to play Brian Kelly, a flight attendant aboard the plane.
