Well! chances are Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is on your shortlist of prospects, if you’re looking to pick a crazy one-sided fight, but don’t want to bother Liam Neeson in the processSo almost anyone they picked to face him in the upcoming monster-themed blockbuster Rampage would have been someone we’d think he could make short work of. But when we heard that none other than Billions star Malin Akerman was cast as the human nemesis that Johnson would face off against, we’d be lying if we told you we thought it’d be a fair fight.
The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the main human antagonist in the monstrous Rampage is actually the leader of a shady tech firm that’s created the monsters themselves, with Akerman’s casting in the role being the final major piece left before the film goes into production next month. Not much else is said about her character, but we’re already on board to see the former Silk Spectre II from Zack Snyder’s Watchmen go head to head with the man who is the future Black Adam in the DC Extended Universe. Considering both combatants are well versed in fight choreography, this should promise a fight for the ages between the two.
The mention of a tech company creating the monsters of Rampage has us thinking we know which variant of the game was used as inspiration, as if that information wasn’t exciting enough. Certainly, We’re talking about the 1998 title Rampage: World Tour, which specified that the gorilla, lizard and wolf, known respectively as George, Lizzy and Ralph, were created after an accident that took place at the facilities of Scumlabs. If we’re correct, then there’s a good chance that Malin Akerman will get her own moment of technical/chemical enhancement, as the CEO of Scumlabs turns into a monster himself at the end of Rampage: World Tour. So maybe that potential fight with Dwayne Johnson isn’t as fair as we thought.
Keep in mind that all of the details above are speculation, as Rampage doesn’t have an official synopsis laying out any plot points. However, seeing Dwayne Johnson and San Andreas director Brad Peyton reuniting, with Malin Akerman and the rest of the killer cast assembled in tow, we can be assured that dazzling destruction is on the menu. Let’s just hope that the film retains the spirit of comedy, as well as combative nature, that the video game series has given its fans for quite some time now. What’s the use of having a gigantic trio of creatures if you aren’t going to have some laughs at their expense?
