Roland Emmerich celebrates wrapping Independence Day: Resurgence with a double rainbow

Shortly after the cast of Captain America: Civil War wrapped production, Roland Emmerich announced the end of filming for Independence Day Resurgence.

“And that’s a wrap on @IDResurgance,” tweeted Emmerich along with a photo of a double rainbow. “Thank you Albuquerque, New Mexico, you’ve been amazing.” Actress Joey King reposted the response on Facebook, while producer-composer Harald Kloser joined in the merriment by posting, “It’s a wrap!!!”

The director and his cast unveiled the first details of the long-developed Independence Day sequel during a special presentation back in June. In addition to the official title, the plot details were revealed, telling of a time when the nations collaborated on a global defense initiative using recovered alien technology. Unfortunately, the invaders eventually return with bigger, badder weapons, leaving the fate of the planet to a small group of men and women.

Elsewhere, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, and Chadwick Boseman were spotted celebrating the end of Civil War production in Germany, while Chris Hemsworth tweeted the end of his scenes for Ghostbusters.

Resurgence is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 24, 2016. The film features a cast that includes Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Jessie Usher. Check out Emmerich’s post below.
