Netflix, which already has a series of Adam Sandler movies lined up, is going indie for its next film deal. The streaming service has enlisted Jay and Mark Duplass for a four-movie deal, EW has confirmed. The brothers will executive produce the films, which will premiere on Netflix after a limited theatrical and transactional window. There is no timeline yet for those releases.

“This is just the latest step in our very long relationship with the Duplass Brothers,” Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos told Deadline, which initially reported the news. “We’ve been working with them almost since the very beginning, when we were red-envelope delivery. Independent film has always been a big part of Netflix, and the reason we do things like the Adam Sandler deal is so we can do things like this as well.”
The brothers, who are known for their films like The Puffy Chair, Cyrus, and Jeff, Who Lives at Home, recently debuted a new series on HBO: Togetherness, in which Mark stars.
This news follows Amazon’s recent announcement that it will produce and acquire original films. Aside from the Sandler movies, Netflix announced last year it is also partnering with The Weinstein Company to release a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel.
