Universal has ‘no plans’ yet for Compton sequel about Tupac and Snoop Dogg

A spiritual sequel to Straight Outta Compton featuring Tupac, Snoop Dogg, and Tha Dogg Pound sounded too good be true. At the moment, it is.

A Universal spokesperson tells EW: “At this time there are no plans for a Straight Outta Compton sequel.”

Rumors about a follow-up focused on some of the West Coast’s most popular and iconic rappers made the rounds after Dogg Pound member Daz Dillinger reportedly told TMZ it was happening. He posted an Instagram photo that reaffirmed his comments:

TMZ reports that while Ice Cube wasn’t going to produce anyway, the rapper-actor gave his blessing; however, Cube’s publicist tells EW that he has not authorized any sort of Straight Outta Compton sequel.

Tupac and Snoop facsimiles appeared in Compton in the briefest of cameos. The pair collaborated and were label mates on Death Row Records until Tupac’s death in 1996.

A biopic about Tupac is currently in the works, but no actors are attached, and it is still very early in development.

If either movie ends up happening in the wake of Compton, it would make sense financially: The N.W.A story posted the biggest R-rated August opening weekend ever.
