The new Coen brothers film about Hollywood stars features an all-star Hollywood cast including George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum. Hail, Caesar! follows Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin), a Hollywood fixer tasked with keeping comprimising news about his clients out of the press, but his job becomes more difficult when Baird Whitlock (George Clooney), the bumbling star of Hail, Caesar!, is kidnapped by a group calling themselves “The Future”. The movie feels like a classic Coen Brothers, comedy in the vein of Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski.
The Coen Brothers joked that Hail, Caesar! would be the third film in the “Numskull Trilogy” with Clooney, following O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Intolerable Cruelty where he also played idiots. “We kind of teased George with the opportunity to play another numskull,” Joel said, “He was totally up for it.”
